CALIFORNIA INDIAN CRADLE BASKETS AND CHILDBIRTH TRADITIONS

This exhibit includes specially commissioned baskets from twenty California Tribes. Also include are historic photographs, interviews with weavers, and detail on how these baskets are created. You will find a wealth of information concerning California’s Indian childbirth and child rearing traditions: beliefs and practices to ensure fertility, easy labor, healthy babies, and introducing children to a world of order and harmony.
